Internships
The Theodore Roosevelt Inaugural Site offers internships in several areas, including
education/interpretation, collections, and public programming for adult audiences. In the past,
collections interns have assisted with cataloguing, research, exhibit development, and
digitization projects. In addition to conducting tours of the museum, education/interpretation
interns have helped with the development and implementation of school programs. Public
programming interns have assisted with implementing ongoing programs and developing new
ones. Other internship opportunities are offered on an as-needed basis.
While, in most cases, internships at the TR Site are unpaid, students are strongly encouraged to
speak to their schools regarding the process for receiving academic credit. Most interns are
upper class undergraduate or graduate students, but student status is not required. Similarly, a
background in history or museum studies is preferred but not required. Applicants should be
responsible, self-motivated, and detail-oriented.
Anyone interested in an internship at the Theodore Roosevelt Inaugural Site should submit an
application (available as a fillable pdf). Internships are limited and applications are evaluated
on a rolling basis. Please keep in mind the following final deadlines:

Summer 2025 Internship – Public programming (Unpaid Internship)
Project Summary: In 2002, to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the teddy bear, the TR Site
created “Nat” and “Parker,” two teddy bears that visited over 40 national parks. However, this
highly successful program took place in an era of disposable film cameras and handwritten
journals. The TR Site has decided that it is time for Nat and Parker to ride again in the social
media era. This project, scheduled to take place during the summer of 2025, aims to send these
fun-loving teddy bears across the country to various national parks. While on the road, our
National Park Service partners will be sending back photos and stories of their adventures. The
successful internship candidate will be responsible for using these materials to create a vibrant
and engaging social media presence for the bears.
The successful internship candidate will be responsible for organizing Nat and Parker’s travel
itinerary, communicating with their NPS hosts, and creating a vibrant and engaging social media
presence for the bears.
